118th & Doty Pocket Park

In collaboration with community and the City of Hawthorne, FLTS implemented a community engagement and design process to construct a pocket park in a park-poor community. FLTS continues to work with community to foster a relationship between the community and the park. Project opened August 2012.

 

 Lennox Community Garden

Working with a variety of partners including the Los Angeles Conservation Corps andwith the aid of LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas’ office, FLTS constructed and manages the first community garden in Lennox, Ca.  The garden opened April 2012 and continues to thrive.

 

 Bicentennial Park Renovation

In the 2000’s, the City of Hawthorne locked the gates to the underutilized tennis courts at Bicentennial. FLTS led the campaign to revitalize the park and is working with the City and the Trust for Public Land to convert this concrete space into a beautiful, community-designed parkspace set to open in spring 2016. 

Larch Avenue Park

 Working with community, the Trust for Public Land and City of Lawndale, FLTS engaged in comprehensive community engagement to garner design and programming input on a community-designed park in the City of Lawndale. The park is being built in a park-poor community – with 0 acres of parkspace available in a 1/2mile radius! FLTS is set to begin the second phase of outreach to include community art and programming workshops in Fall 2013.

Dominguez Enhancement & Engagement Project (The DEEP)

 In collaboration with Los Angeles County Watershed Division and SWA Group, FLTS revitalized a portion of the Dominguez Creek. This multi-benefit project creates passive and active recreation opportunities for park-poor communities, reestablishes native riparian plantings and captures stormwater before entering the channel along the Dominguez Creek in cities of Gardena and Hawthorne. The DEEP is also the first project in the County’s Greening of the Dominguez Creek plan to include a community engagement component, created and implemented solely by From Lot to Spot. The project opened in December 2012. FLTS continues to engage the community through workshops and maintenance events.

Stanford Avalon Community Garden

Along with the Los Angeles Community Garden Council, FLTS is working with the gardeners at Stanford/Avalon on several fronts including leadership development and community engagement.

Lynwood Walking Park

 IIn 2011, FLTS spearheaded the comprehensive community engagement plan to design the multi-benefit Lynwood Walking Park project in an underserved community in the City. The engagement included over nine community events throughout the City with over 300 participants. FLTS secured a $5 million dollar grant needed to construct the park which will feature community-identified features such as extensive drought-tolerant, native plantings, a fitness block, bioswale and a 1 acre Lynwood Urban Farm. The Lynwood Walking Park is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2015.

Lennox Community Parks & Recreation Plan

Working with The Planning Center DC & E and the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust in spring 2013, FLTS implemented asset mapping, stakeholder interviews, focus groups, community workshops, FLTS’s “Sidewalk Engagement”, and an interactive community walking tour of Lennox Blvd to capture the community’s voice in expressing their parks and recreation needs.   A concept master plan is due in 2014.
