FLTS has been trying to convert this Caltrans owned property into a park space for a community in a park-poor, low-income neighborhood in the City of Hawthorne for over five years.
Despite strong and overwhelming support from the local community, local elected officials and environmental groups in the Los Angeles area, Caltrans has refused to meet with representatives from FLTS to even discuss the matter.
We have presented this urgent issue to our local elected representatives, Assemblymember Curren Price, Senator Edward Vincent, County Supervisor Yvonne Burke and State Senator Barbara Boxer. We are waiting to hear the results of their actions.
